Nick Rocco playing with the USA West Lax Team
The coaching staff and I would like you to join the ranks of the USA West Lacrosse Team! Dear Nick, You have a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent your country in Manchester, England during the World Championships. Congratulations on being selected to the USA WEST All – Star team! Now it’s time to get down to some of the details about the trip. As you can imagine a trip of this nature is no small undertaking. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration when traveling with an All –Star team to a foreign country, especially considering that we are traveling to the World Games.
The USA West Lacrosse Team is a regional All Star teams comprised of the best high school lacrosse players in the deep south & western half of the country. USA West was set up to provide lacrosse players from these areas with the playing experience of a lifetime. Since its inception, USA West teams have traveled to Japan, England, Australia, China, Germany, South Korea and the Czech Republic. The team has had tremendous success winning every college tournament that we have entered.
For the summer of 2010 we are putting together one of the best USA West team yet! The trip will put the team to the ultimate test by playing in the World Championships. The team will be playing in the U-19 elite division of the festival. After the tournament the team will travel south to visit Bath, Stonehenge, and London.
The trip will start on July 14th when all players and coaches have to report to Los Angeles for training camp. The players and coaches will come together for 2 nights and 3 days of mini camp to prepare for their trip abroad. The team will then fly to Manchester for the tournament.
Once again congratulations on being selected!

OS LAX seniors commit to play at MS colleges
Ocean Springs senior attackman & St.Patrick HS student, Nick Rocco has committed to play MCLA Division I Lacrosse at the University of Mississippi. Rocco, a first-team All-State Louisiana High School Lacrosse League selection as a junior, had the opportunity to become one of the first Mississippi natives to play NCAA-sanctioned lacrosse. But he decided to forgo the opportunity, because, he wanted a chance to have more of a social life in college.
"It's more of a chance to have fun with the sport," Rocco said.
Rocco said he also considered Jacksonville U, Limestone, FSU, Dallas, Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps before settling on the Oxford-based school.
"It was just as much the school, as it was the lacrosse, that went into the decision," Rocco said. "Thanks to my teammates, I could have went to a lot of schools. I belong in Mississippi. The guys (on the Ole Miss team) are great guys, and getting to know them made it a little easier."
Another Ocean Springs HS senior, defenseman/long-stick middie Mike Huckle has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Millsaps College. Huckle said he also considered St. Andrew's (N.C.), Southwestern (Tex.) and Mesa State before settling on the Jackson-based school that will field its first varsity men's team in 2011.
"It was closer to home, and I like being part of a brand-new lacrosse program," Huckle said. "I want to keep lacrosse going here in the South and in Mississippi."
Huckle said he started playing lacrosse as a freshman in high school, and he has made his mark in just three years. "I'm pretty proud," he said. "I never would have guessed it, but I went to Top 205 West (lacrosse camp), and the coaches liked me I guess."
